The CIF-Southern Section announced its baseball and softball honorees and five baseball players from the Coachella Valley were honored. All five were members of league championship squads. The team is selected by the CIF-SS Baseball Coaches Association.
Leading the list was Desert Christian Academy, the CIF Division 6 champs.
Senior pitcher Morgan Earman was selected as Player of the Year in the division while teammates Marshall Webb and Nate Loewen were named to the first team.
Conquerors’ coach Mark Salazar was named Coach of the Year.
Earman, who has commited to Arizona, led DCA to the school’s first CIF baseball title with his 12-1 record, 0.27 ERA and .436 batting average. In 79 innings pitched, he struck out 144 batters, sparking DCA to an unbeaten Victory League and a 29-2 overall record.
Webb, an outfielder/pitcher, batted .465 and Loewen, an infielder, hit .477.
In Div. 3, Palm Desert senior Brian Serven was a first-team selection with his versatile game. The pitcher/catcher/infielder batted .286 with an ERA of 1.79 for the DVL champs.
In Div. 5, Shadow Hills’ Tyson Miller earned the nod. He helped the Knights to another De Anza League title, a 19-7 overall record. In league play, the outfielder/pitcher hit .364 and posted a 0.19 ERA.
There were no selections in any division for softball.
