John Benoit raises fundraising bar with $1,000 lunch

In a sign that he’s revving up his campaign fundraising, Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit next week will have a $1,000-per-person lunch at the Mission Inn.

For those of you who don’t track fundraiser ticket prices closely, let us put it in perspective.

BenoitIn April, Benoit charged $150 per person for an evening fundraiser at Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

It was the same price to attend Benoit’s campaign event at The Living Desert last October, where he shared photos from his African safari trip.

To be fair, Benoit is not the first to set a four-digit ticket price.

Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley usually does for his annual trip to Dodger Stadium, where supporters get the added benefit of enjoying a baseball game.

Ashley’s camp is now circulating an invitation for the June 26 game against the San Francisco Giants, where supporters will pay $1,100 for the first ticket and $1,000 for an additional ticket.

The price of next week’s lunch indicates Benoit is preparing for an expensive re-election campaign next year. He’ll face Assemblyman V. Manuel Pérez, a Coachella Democrat who cannot run for re-election himself because of term limits.
