A designer vintage shop in Palm Desert has landed on Elle Magazine’s list of the Top 17 best vintage clothing stores in the country.
The Fine Art of Design, 73717 Highway 111, is featured in the magazine as one of the nation’s “best treasure troves.”
You’ll find costume jewelry, designer handbags and Edwardian whites as well as new look dresses, Megan Cahn wrote in the feature.
“Founder Nicolas Delgado prides himself on nurturing a consciousness for American designers and their contributions to fashion by carrying pieces by James Galanos, Norman Norell, Geoffrey Beene, Ralph Lauren, Anne Klein, Todd Oldham, and Bill Blass,” the magazine wrote.
Delgado — the son of Joaquin and Sharon Delgado, who own Las Casuelas Nuevas Restaurant in Rancho Mirage — graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York.
The store’s collection ranges from the early 1900s through the 70’s and 90’s, collected from valley shoppers who stop by the store to sell, trade or consign.
“Many customers have kept their best pieces or favorites and have a personal connection to them,” Delgado said in a news statement. “Clothing is very personal. They don’t want to give them up to a thrift shop, but hope someone younger will buy and appreciate their designer clothes.”
The Fine Art of Design was one of five California shops to land on the list.
Scout in Hollywod, Shareen’s and Vintage Vortex in Los Angeles and Painted Bird in San Francisco were also featured.
