REMEMBERING FIREFIGHTERS: Details were released Tuesday afternoon about Friday’s memorial service for Christopher Douglas, the Thousand Palms-based fire engineer who died last week following a crash along Interstate 10. That announcement came just hours after a memorial for the 19 Arizona firefighters who died late last month.

MENIFEE SEARCH: The FBI has been called in to help search for missing Menifee boy Terry Smith, and his mother has spoken out on Facebook.

TRAFFIC ALERTS: In La Quinta, steer clear of a ruptured water main that’s closed Washington Street between Avenue 50 and Calle Tampico. Heading to San Diego? A crash into a bridge has a portion of southbound Interstate 215 closed in Perris.

A HAPPY ENDING: With memorials, traffic messes and a missing boy in the news, it seems like a good time to check out the uplifting thank yous from three Ohio women who were found in May after being held captive for a decade:

NAMES IN THE NEWS: Palm Springs resident Stephen Collins hosts “Property Envy,” which premieres Tuesday night on Bravo. C.J. Graham is taking the helm of Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage, and Tom Garfinkel is stepping down as the San Diego Padres’ president. Speaking of sports, Colin Kaepernick caught my eye on the cover of ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue, but Larry Bohannan says he’ll pass on the annual issue.

Update: Want to see more of Kaepernick? Bleacher Report has other photos from the shoot.

COMING UP: I got to spend part of today playing with numbers from the National Climatic Data Center as colleagues worked on a story about the sticky conditions we’ve seen lately. Look for their story later Tuesday on MyDesert.
