One of the most satisfying parts of working for a newspaper is when something we publish makes a difference. On Wednesday, we ran a Valley Voice column from Arlene Rosenthal of Well in the Desert. A grant that the Palm Springs charity was counting on to feed the hungry had been delayed until September.
She was looking at “a nightmare summer.”
On Friday, Arlene sent this email: “The outpouring of financial support, donations from $5 to $5,000 have been unbelievable. We will achieve our goal of $25,000, and more, and, as I said, ‘dance in the streets.’ Well, not in the street, as it would be dangerous, but we will celebrate at one of our Church partners, probably at St. Paul’s, with dancing in joy.”
I’m always impressed with the generosity of the Coachella Valley – even in these hot summers days when all those wealthy snowbirds are back home in cooler climes.
