Summer is screeching to a halt and I’m trying to keep the kids busy and entertained.
August can be slow-going in the valley, but there are still a lot of kid-friendly activities to choose from.
Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert has organized Children’s Discovery Camp, a one-week, full-day camp for children, ages 5 to 9. The themes vary each week, but all the themes are educational. Pre-enrollment is recommended. Information; (760) 321-0602; www. cdmod.org.
The Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines festival is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. August 17 and 18. The festival features live jazz, blues, Latin and rock under the trees in the cooler climate of Idyllwild. Information; www.idyllwildjazz.com.
Knott’s Soak City in Palm Springs is hosting Dive-In Movies on Friday nights. Park visitors can watch a movie from the wave pool or the beach and the park attractions will remain open until the movie is over. Information; www.soakcityps.com.
Westfield Palm Desert is hosting Family Fun Days on from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesdays through August 21. Free kid-friendly activities, crafts and snacks are available for all children. Information; www.westfield.com/palmdesert.
