RANCHO MIRAGE — The former Thunderbird Country Club home of tire magnate, philanthropist and Belgium ambassador Leonard K. Firestone has been sold for $3 million.
The 7,280-square-foot estate that sits on three acres has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. And that’s not all the expansive mountain-view location features; it also is home to a tennis pavilion, courtyard pool and citrus orchard, according to a news release that Realtor Nelda Linsk of HK Lane Real Estate sent out on Wednesday morning.
Linsk was a longtime friend of the Firestones and nearby neighbors Gerald and Betty Ford. Firestone, a one-time Desert Sun owner who died in 1996, was also co-founder of the world-renowned Betty Ford alcohol abuse treatment center in Rancho Mirage.
”I was very honored to have dinner many times at the Firestones’ home when the Fords were guests,” said Linsk, who has been in real estate for more than 30 years.
Linsk and business partner Lindell Campbell also helped sell the Los Angeles architect William Pereira-designed Firestone estate 11 years ago to the current sellers, Sondra and Ron Lanstein.
Oh, and did we mention the estate is beautiful?
