The Southern California PGA will be holding a series of big events in the desert in the coming weeks, including its women’s section championship Sept. 18 and 19 at the Gary Player Course at Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage.
Nikki Gatch of the SCPGA sent me a note saying that the women professionals of the SCPGA will dedicate the section championship to the memory of Tracy Lane. Lane, as you may recall, was a local club professional who decided to reveal her battle with cervical cancer in July as a way to help promote education and prevention of the disease and to help raise funds for research. Lane died earlier this month, just about one year from her original diagnosis.
“Our hope is to not only honor Tracy, but to raise awareness for her Foundation,” Gatch said in her e-mail. “Callaway Golf has graciously stepped up as our title sponsor, and will provide golf balls and golf shirts for all participants. The shirts will be teal, the color for Cervical Cancer, and will include the Tracy Lane Foundation logo.”
Gatch said Derek Lane, Tracy’s husband as well as the director of golf at The Quarry in La Quinta, will also serve as our honorary starter for the event and will present the trophy, Gatch added.
The Tracy Lane Foundation was set up by the Lanes to raise money for research. Anyone interested in donating to the Tracy Lane Foundation can do so at The Tracy Lane Foundation c/o DELT Law, 5402 Ruffin Road Suite 209, San Diego, CA 92123.
