Death of Army NCO in Afghanistan under investigation

The Army is investigating the death of an NCO who died Thursday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Saturday.

Sgt. William D. Brown III, 44, died during a non-combat incident on Sept. 19 in Laghman Province, Afghanistan. He was from Franklin, North Carolina.

He was assigned to 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Fort Polk in Louisiana. He was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

No other details were released.

According to a casualty statistics report released by the Department of Defense at 10 a.m. Friday morning, 367 service members have died in Afghanistan due to non-hostile causes during Operation Enduring Freedom.
