Another week of football in the valley, another update on the All-Desert Sun Watch list. This is the latest look at the early candidates for the All-Desert Sun football team. Return to the Desert Sun sports blog for weekly updates.

QB Rex Rover (2)
Xavier Prep, 5’9 165, Sr.
Has efficiently thrown for 844 yards and 11 TDs in four games.

RB Chris Rom-Turibio (2)
La Quinta, 5’9 160, Jr.
“Turbo” is averaging 182 yards per game filling in for Kenyon Williams.

RB Orlando Wallace (3)
Cathedral City, 5’11 180, Jr.
Consistent back is on pace to eclipse 1,600 yards and 23 TDs on the ground.

RB Trae Riek (3)
Palm Desert, 5’11 200, Sr.
Even without a reliable offensive line, Riek has 404 yards and 9 total TDs.

WR Daniel Stabile (3)
Xavier Prep, 5’8 150, Jr.
Speedster leads the valley in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.

WR Reinaldo Periera (3)
Palm Springs, 5’8 160, Sr.
A dynamic receiver, Periera has 20 receptions for 291 yards and 5 TDs.

OL Jeff Salas-Arellano (2)
Cathedral City, 6’0 205, Sr.
The three-year starter is a big reason the Lions have a deadly run game.

OL Eduardo Arizmendi (4)
Palm Springs, 6’3 225, Sr.
The captain of the line has been a catalyst for the Indians’ early offensive success.

OL Ben Simonds (4)
La Quinta, 6’4 260, Sr.
Needs to cut down on penalties, but is a huge reason for Rom-Toribio’s success.

OL Jake Meyer (4)
Palm Desert, 6’2 245, Sr.
Meyer has been perhaps the lone bright spot on the line this year.

OL Jamal Holdman (4)
Cathedral City, 6’2 255, Sr.
The two-way standout has a handful of pancake blocks already this season.

K Luis Castellanos (1)
Cathedral City, 6’0 170, Sr.
Castellanos is 17-of-17 on PATS and 2-of-2 on field goals — both 45-yarders.



DL Jake Ashton (3)
Xavier Prep, 6’4 205, Sr.
Xavier’s best defender also has 21 catches for 328 yards and four TDs.

DL Bobby Orrellano (4)
La Quinta, 6’0 250, Jr.
All-DVL lineman is the heart of arguably the best defense in the valley.

DL Charles Hays (2)
La Quinta, 6’4 245, Jr.
His size and strength have been huge for the Blackhawks on defense.

LB Chance Spates (4)
Palm Springs, 6’0 215, Sr.
Has made plays all over the field for the Indians.

LB Darius Griffin (2)
La Quinta, 5’11 225, Sr.
La Quinta’s leading tackler and a force running thwe ball, too.

LB Casey Davis (2)
Palm Springs, 5’10 225, Sr.
Leads the Indians in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks.

LB Aaron Lomboy (4)
Cathedral City, 5’10 195, Sr.
Two-way star is the quickest player to the ball in the entire valley.

DB Tayler Hawkins (3)
Palm Springs, 6’1 175, Soph.
Two-way star had another interception returned for a score against Corona.

DB Patrick Lucas (4)
La Quinta, 6’0 180, Sr.
Has a fumble returned for a TD, two interceptions and has broken up six passes.

DB Justin Dorsey (1)
Cathedral City, 5’10 180, Sr.
A two-way standout has two interceptions and three TDs on the year.

DB Kyle Kabeary (4)
Palm Desert, 5’11 180, Sr.
One of the top QBs in the valley has also returned a pick 75 yards for a TD.

RS James Rodriguez (4)
Cathedral City, 5’10 180, Sr.
Has had two 50-plus yard TD returns brought back on penalties.
