The Funkey family currently owns and runs two of Palm Springs’ popular restaurant and bars: Giuseppe’s and Bar. And this fall looks to add another restaurant to their portfolio. The much anticipated opening of Smoketree Supper Club, located around the corner from Giuseppe’s in South Palm Springs, just got even more hype as the family opened the new restaurant’s doors for a brief moment last week. Following Giuseppe’s “Make My Pizza” finals, folks were given a sneak peak at the currently under construction Smoketree Supper Club.
Last Thursday, after shifting through client submitted pizza ideas (a total of 183 entries) , Giuseppe’s held a final judging, selecting three pizzas:
Christopher Giusto – Eggplant Parmesan Pizza: Hand-tossed crust, red sauce and mozzarella, breaded eggplant medallions, with dollops of ricotta chese and fresh basil.
Vic Yepello – Grazin in the Grass Pizza: Chicago deep-dish style crust, pesto sauce, spinach, red onions, roast red peppers, basil, feta cheese, mozzarella cheese and sauteed kale.
Dane Skoff- In to the Deep Pizza: A Chicago deep-dish creation with red sauce, alfredo sauce, sausage, tiger shrimp, bell peppers, spinach, onions, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, basil, feta cheese, extra cheese and mozzarella cheese.
But pizza wasn’t the only entree on the menu that night as the doors opened for a taste of the soon-to-be opened Smoketree Supper Club. The new restaurant has been conceived as a “grill your own” style steakhouse. This week Joe and daughter Kim Funkey gave me a private walk through chatting about the future of Smoketree. Kim clued me into a whole other craft cocktail bar concept that she said may include organic and gluten-free options.
Take a peek below at a few design details already forming within Smoketree. Stay tuned for more updates…
