I have never been prouder to belong to the Desert’s Interior Design Community. The local chapters of two wonderful organizations, the Interior Design Society (IDS) and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) are both hard at work supporting education of Coachella Valley youth. As the Palm Springs chapter of ASID prepares to award scholarships to local college-bound students enrolled in accredited design and architecture programs, the members of IDS are putting their bloopers, slightly damaged and leftover furnishings and materials to good use through a tag sale benefiting the Marquee Academy of Performing Arts of Palm Springs.

For the past week, the artists, designers and business partners of IDS have been dropping off everything from bar stools and lighting fixtures, to left over fabric bolts and artworks at the Marquee Academy in Palm Springs. Proceeds from the Cash and Carry Designer Tag Sale, to be held this Saturday, October 5th, will benefit the Academy in their quest to reach “at-risk” youth through music education. The sale will also help IDS continue their good works of giving back to the community.
The Marquee Academy, located in Downtown Palm Springs, was founded in the belief that children can gain huge social benefits by playing music. The programming is fully inclusive and offered to individuals without discrimination in terms of their prior musical training, or their ability to pay. In response to continuing budget cuts to funding of arts education in public schools, the nonprofit Academy aims to level the musical playing field for children of all socioeconomic backgrounds by ensuring that students from low-income families receive the same introduction to and instruction in music that is available to children of families with greater resources.
IF YOU GO: CASH & CARRY DESIGNER TAG SALE - Saturday, October 5th with doors open to the public between 7am – 3pm at the Marquee Academy of Performing Arts, 441 South Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs. Refreshments & Entertainment will be provided.
