A Marine from Wisconsin died Saturday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Monday.

Lance Cpl. Jeremiah M. Collins, Jr., 19, of Milwaukee was killed “while supporting combat operations” in Helmand Province, the DoD said, adding that Collins’ death is under investigation.

Collins was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

At least 2,276 U.S. service members and DoD civilians have died during Operation Enduring Freedom, according to a casualty statistics report issued at 10 a.m. on October 1.

No new report has been uploaded to the DoD website since the partial government shutdown.
