Republican Senate candidates to face off in Temecula

There’s still eight months before the 2014 primary election, but the three Republican candidates running for the 28th Senate seat are already in a serious push to sway party faithful.

Former Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, Indio Councilman Glenn Miller and Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone are expected to attend a candidates forum Friday evening in Temecula.

The forum is part of the Murrieta-Temecula Republican Assembly’s monthly meeting. It starts at 6 p.m. at the Temecula Civic Center, 41000 Main Street.

The 28th Senate District was created under redistricting, so there is no incumbent. It includes the entire Coachella Valley, and favors Republicans in terms of voter registration.

So far, no Democrats have announced their plans to run in the race. Under California’s top-two primary system, it’s possible for two Republicans to make it to the November ballot.
