High season in the desert brings with it blue skies and temperate climes. We are pleased to welcome you back to this paradise.

Whether you’re here year-round, a seasonal resident or a vacation visitor, the desert is poised to deliver the very finest in art and culture, dining, entertainment, leisure activities and a plethora of opportunities to celebrate with the organizations that make our community a better place for all. You’ll find the season’s highlights within our pages this month.

We also take you on an excursion inside Joshua Tree National Park for a peak at its winter landscapes and a primer on framing up the photo opportunities that abound within this national treasure.

With camera in hand, Lynn Lieu heads out for a couple of days of gallivanting around two of our favorite shopping and dining destinations — one day of exploring the scene on El Paseo in Palm Desert and another on Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.

And, Pamela Bieri crosses the valley to show us some of the top new restaurants to come along in recent months and the delectable delights that await your arrival. You’ll want to be sure these spots make it onto your radar this season.

Our cover, shot by photographer David Blank on location at the Palm Springs Air Museum — with the Flabob Express they had flown in for the occasion — captures a moment in our imagination when we take our first step back into the valley for the season, embarking on our future with anticipation and excitement for what lies in store.

Welcome back!
