Richard Simmons’ larger-than-life personality and spontaneity were on full blast during Pride weekend in Palm Springs.
The fitness guru entertained diners Saturday night (Nov. 2) at Workshop Kitchen + Bar in the desert community, sporadically bursting into song as he visited multiple tables. Many diners were amused by Simmons, posing for photos with him and chatting him up. His impromptu performance culminated with his standing atop the communal table in the middle of the restaurant, displaying his agility.
But that wasn’t the end of Simmons’ memorable visit.
The following day he appeared at the Greater Palm Springs Pride festival in support of Boo2Bullying, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and funds to end anti-gay bullying among youth. From the main stage, Simmons became the fiery motivator he’s known for as a weight-loss expert. He could be heard on the mic across the festival grounds loudly demanding that attendees fill the space in front of the stage.
While some were drawn to the stage by his commotion, others hung back laughing or went about their business – whom Simmons playfully chastised with “I am an icon!”
