If you haven’t noticed a small shop next door to BAR in downtown Palm Springs this year, it’s time to start noticing. Epidemic Skate Shop has been has been curarting a pop up shop for months in the space. Recently, Epidemic brought in lifestyle line Brixton! (If you’re a fan of skate/surf/snow wear as I am, this is something you need to put on your to-do list) This Thursday, BAR will host a special launch party for the Brixton pop up. For more on the shop, Epidemic president and owner Glen Coy answered some quick questions.
Can you tell us how the pop-up location started and it’s concept?
The Shop PS is a retail space curated by Epidemic. The space was created in the Spring of 2013. The idea behind it is to bring a different brand to the Downtown Palm Springs every 2-3 months. This season we are featuring Brixton Clothing from San Diego. We carry a wide selection of men’s clothing, head wear & accessories as well as skateboards. We also have a wide selection of women’s head wear. In the Spring of 2014 we will be featuring RVCA, then Volcom. We are located next to BAR, which is owned by one of Epidemic’s old employees, Donovan Funkey.
What are your goals with the pop-up location?
To bring new and exciting store fronts to Downtown Palm Springs every couple months. We are also focused on creating special events and shows at BAR.
Who has been in the pop-up location?
We originally tested the concept out with a small version of our skateboard shop, Epidemic located in Cathedral City. The success of that allowed us to partner up with some of the most well known and respected brands in the skate and surf industry.
Can you tell us about why you’re bring Brixton to the shop?
We decided to bring Brixton to the space this season because it is on the forefront of skateboard and surf culture in the youth market. We also have very close ties to many of the employees at the brand and thought it would be a great company to work with.
We are having a launch party this Thursday, November 21st, 7 p.m. at Bar. The Drowing Men, The Flytraps & The Plug Uglies will be playing live. The event is free and ages 21+. The Shop PS is located at 340 N. Palm Canyon, and people can stay informed via www.epidemicskateboardshop.com or on our Instagram @theshop_ps.
