One great thing about the modern newspaper/website is that we can instantly track reader reactions to our stories.

Tuesday’s Valley Voice column Ray M. Smythe, one of our regular contributors, struck a nerve. He listed 10 places in the Coachella Valley for which he is thankful, such as the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, the Sunnylands Center & Gardens in Rancho Mirage and the Palm Desert campus of California State University, San Bernardino.

The response was terrific. At one point, his column and photo gallery that accompanied it was the most viewed item on mydesert.com. The online comments listed other places that readers thought should be included, such as the Indian Canyons, Cabot’s Pueblo Museum and the Coachella Valley History Museum.

A letter to the editor in Thursday’s edition argues that the Palm Springs Air Museum should in the Top 5. Another set to run on Sunday suggests El Paseo at Christmastime and The Living Desert.

This would be a fun Thanksgiving Day discussion. Ask the family to vote on their favorite places and email the winners to letters@thedesertsun.com.

Follow the usual rules for letters to the editor – no more than 200 words, and include your full name, city and a phone number in case we have question. And if you have photos, send those too!
