When David York became the GM at Hyatt Palm Springs in September, he started a new tradition at the downtown Palm Springs resort.
“When I took over the hotel, I started thinking of ways that we could be a part of the community, and one of the things that I did at one of my other hotels – a resort property in Colorado – I brought a dog in to help kind of bring people together,” York said.
Given that Palm Springs is such a pet oriented community, York, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was in law enforcement before getting into the tourism industry, decided to adopt Chunk, a 62-pound bulldog, from the Southern California Bulldog Rescue organization.
“We rescued Chunk to be our lobby ambassador and he comes to work every morning with me,” York said. “We get here around 6:30, 7 in the morning and he starts his shift in the lobby. He goes back and forth and greets the guests, whether they’re four-legged guests or two-legged guests he welcomes everyone to the hotel.”
