I got a tip from a reader on Tuesday that Tesla Motors will hold a test drive event 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 8-9 at Trilogy at the Polo Club, 51088 Sorrel Court, Indio.

Here’s what I can tell you, from the Tesla website:
- Appointments will be confirmed by a Tesla representative. Test drive appointments are available to prospective customers.
- Your driving session will be 15 minutes long over a predetermined route designed to highlight the capabilities of Model S.
- A Tesla Product Specialist will accompany all drives to ensure you optimize your time in Model S.
- You may bring up to three guests to ride in the back seat during your drive.
I was lucky enough to test-drive a Model S last year at the Clean Tech Investors Summit in Indian Wells, and it was an awesome experience. Driving an all-electric car, there’s stuff to get used to — like starting the car, which is done by taking one’s foot off the brake after you get in and buckle up.
The regenerative braking is also a little weird at first – because the car harvests energy from when take your foot off the accelerator.
The test drive was on Highway 111 and what I remember most is at one point the product specialist in the front seat with me told me to just floor it, to get a sense of the power, and yeah, that car moved.
