The Palm Springs Art Colony real estate development may not be seeing a resurrection in north Palm Springs, as some residents in the area suspect.

A construction sign in front of the property at the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Racquet Club Road alerts folks to the developer Del Mar Properties I LLC, and even a phone number to call if neighbors are annoyed by dust.

Problem is, officials with the Palm Springs Planning Services Department says they have no recent projects on file going by the name Palm Springs Art Colony. And a search of the California Secretary of State database of active businesses in the state, found the company’s listing “cancelled.” When I called the phone number listed on the sign for Burnett Companies, it came up “disconnected.”

Residents and visitors to the area will notice some new landscaping around the perimeter of the site.

“This was part of a code enforcement action,” said Margo Wheeler, director of planning services in Palm Springs, in an email. “Just because the buildings had been torn down, does not mean that all landscaping is to disappear.”

The project was last approved by the Palm Springs City Council in 2007 as a 174-unit condo development, according to reports by The Desert Sun.
