Councilman Greg Pettis doesn’t hide disdain for Mayor DeRosa

In case you missed it, Cathedral City Mayor Kathy DeRosa dropped a political bombshell at Wednesday’s council meeting when she announced she would not seek re-election this fall.

Tweet from pettisAnd to say DeRosa’s decision was well received by Councilman Greg Pettis is putting it mildly.

“DeRosa announces she will NOT run for re-election! As the saying goes, ‘Ding Dong …….” Pettis tweeted at 10:33 p.m. Wednesday.

Pettis and DeRosa have been at odds for years. In 2012, Pettis joined Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Vasquez and Councilman Sam Toles in endorsing mayoral challenger Chip Yarborough.

Pettis’ Twitter dig actually is reminiscent of an attack made during that campaign, when Yarborough supporters circulated a flier portraying DeRosa as a witch flying over the civic center on a broomstick.

DeRosa, who has been on council a total of 16 years, will be backing Councilman Stan Henry.

Hours before the mayor made her announcement, Henry told The Desert Sun that he was already starting to build support for a mayoral campaign.
