Disney will be paying tribute to our wounded warriors during its Feb. 27 “Countdown to the Oscars” special on ABC.

A few weeks ago, Disneyland Resort cast members welcomed dozens of service men and women, accompanied by actor Gary Sinise. The visit was part of a weeklong trip to Southern California arranged by Sinise’s nonprofit foundation, which raises money for veterans initiatives.

The trip was also in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the movie “Forrest Gump,” in which Sinise portrayed Lt. Dan Taylor who lost his legs in the Vietnam War, Kevin Rafferty Jr., communications specialist for the Disneyland Resort, posted in a blog.

The men and women arrived from Walter Reed Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir and Naval Medical Center in San Diego and visited several Southern California landmarks, in addition to Disneyland Resort.

Parts of their trip will be aired during Thursday night’s special.

While at the Disneyland Resort the group was honored during a special flag retreat ceremony.

Time Warner Cable customers can view it at 8 p.m. on ABC — Pacific time.
